What's Happening at ABWES!The
The Alger B.
Wilkins family congratulates Dr. Shirley Hines for the
successful defense of her dissertation. Dr. Shirley
HInes has been working on her Doctorate of Education Degree
the last five years. She is to be commended for this
phenomenal achievement.
REMINDER
PARENTS:
Reminder Parents: If your child needs extra help, tutoring
is available through our after-school program or
Supplemental Educational Services. Please contact Dr.
Fenner for more information.
Cumberland
County Schools will host a Supplemental Educational Services
Parent Information Night to assist parents with questions
and provide further information.
The
parent/provider meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept.13,
2011, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Cumberland County Schools
Educational Resource Center located at 396 Elementary Dr.,
Fayetteville, NC. Supple-mental Educational Services
(SES) are tutoring programs outside of regular school hours
that are provided by independent service providers.
Your child may qualify for these additional services if
he/she attends a school that has and qualifies for free and
reduced lunch. The students and staff of Alger
B. Wilkins Elementary gathered around the flagpole in
remembrance of 9/11. Dr. Fenner summarized the events of 9/11,
a moment of silence was given and patriotic songs were sung.
The teachers discussed 9/11 with the students prior to the
event.

Sutton, Chair of of CC Board of Education,
recently spoke to K-5
students at Alger B. Wilkins Elementary School in honor of
Black History month.
The Adventure of the Blue Flame
Performance visited Alger B. Wilkins
on February 18, 2011 to talk about Natural Gas safety.
FSU Double Dutch & Step Team performed at
Alger B. Wilkins on
February 22, 2011 at 1:00 pm. Students and staff participate
in the
performance.
March 2, 2011 - Dr. Till, our
Superintendent of CCS came out to read to the 3rd Graders
for Read Across America.
